DUBLIN — At about 11:45 a.m. on Sept. 13, deputies at the Santa Rita Jail brought 33-year-old Bryson Levy to a new cell that was already occupied by Yuri Brand, an El Cerrito man on pretrial detention for allegedly living at a stranger’s unoccupied Piedmont home without permission for two days.Just 46 minutes later, Brand was found, dead, underneath a jail mattress and Levy, who stayed on top of Brand’s body until deputies ordered him to be handcuffed for removal from the cell, according to court records. Levy was re-arrested in the jail, and on Monday, Alameda County prosecutors formally charged him with one count of murder, though the exact cause of Brand’s death is unclear. There are no indications the two men knew one another, and the actual cell placement was routine, according to authorities. RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — More Virginia Democrats on Tuesday cast the controversy surrounding a legislative candidate who livestreamed herself performing sex acts as a distraction from the stakes in this fall’s elections, while stopping short of fully championing her continued campaign.Neither the state party nor the House Democratic caucus has publicly called for Susanna Gibson to end her campaign after it was revealed last week that she had sex with her husband in live videos posted on a pornographic website and asked viewers to pay them money in return for carrying out specific sex acts. But neither group has publicly declared how much support — financial or otherwise — Gibson can expect moving forward. “Our focus is and has always been on flipping the House and taking back the majority. The MAGA Republicans are continuing to try to distract us while working to implement their plan to ban abortion and roll back the rights and freedoms of all Virginians,” House Democratic Caucus ...11-year-old boy reported missing in Chelsea reunited with his family after hourslong search

An alleged hazing incident has prompted an internal investigation at King Philip Regional High School in Wrentham. The school district sent a letter to parents Tuesday letting them know upperclassmen on the school’s varsity football team had organized boxing matches between 10th grade students while the players were attending Camp Mataponi in Naples, Maine last month.Senior Class President Ian Knott said he’s disappointed to learn of the allegations.“It’s unfortunate to hear,” he said. “This was a very one-off event. Pretty much everyone gets along. I’ve barely heard of any sort of bullying across the school. I was very surprised to hear this.”The letter from the school says no one was hurt and no coaches were present during the boxing matches. The letter continued,” Although there were individual students who took a greater lead in orchestrating the hazing/boxing, there were many people involved and the behavior was so widesprea...Latest news
