Phillies turn to upcoming free agent Aaron Nola to pitch past Arizona and into World Series PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Aaron Nola takes the ball in Game 6 of the NL Championship Series with a couple of familiar questions swirling around him. Can he pitch the Phillies one win closer to a World Series? If not, might this be the last start for Nola in a Phillies uniform? The answer to the first query is an easy one — a resounding yes. Nola is 3-0 in the postseason — including seven shutout innings in the NL wild-card clincher against Miami — with a 0.96 ERA. He has allowed two runs in 18 2/3 innings, struck out 19 and walked two. With a second straight trip to the World Series at stake, Nola gets the call Monday night against Arizona in the NLCS.Now, as for his last start with the Phillies… If he wins Monday, he’s sure to pitch again. But Nola knows each postseason outing has the potential of serving as the last one with the Phillies as he nears the end of his five-year contract. The 30-year-old Nola is eligible for free agency after the World Series because his agent and th...

Juventus boosts title credentials with 1-0 win over 10-man Milan. Mourinho sees red in Roma win MILAN (AP) — Juventus boosted its title credentials on Sunday with a 1-0 win at AC Milan, which played the entire second half of the Serie A game with 10 men.Former Milan player Manuel Locatelli scored the only goal in the 63rd minute after Rossoneri defender Malick Thiaw was sent off shortly before halftime. The goal came exactly seven years to the date after Locatelli fired Milan to a 1-0 win over Juventus.“It came into my mind before the match. Life is incredible. This is really destiny, because the same day, seven years ago, with a different jersey, it’s incredible,” Locatelli said. “Of course I remembered the date, I’d even talked about it with my family … (Juventus midfielder Adrien) Rabiot told me before the match ‘Score in the right goal this time.’”Milan would have moved back to the top with a win and gone seven points clear of Juventus. Instead, the Bianconeri consolidated third place and cut the gap to one point to Milan and two points to league leader In...

17-year-old Guiu scores seconds into his first-team debut to give Barcelona a Spanish league victory MADRID (AP) — Another teenager has made history for Barcelona in the Spanish league.Seventeen-year-old Marc Guiu scored around 30 seconds into his first-team debut to give the Catalan club a 1-0 win over Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, becoming the second-youngest player to score in his league debut.Malaga’s Fabrice Olinga was 16 when he scored against Celta Vigo in his debut in 2012. Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal became the youngest scorer in the Spanish league in a 2-2 draw against Granada before the international break. Guiu came off the bench and after two touches was celebrating the game-winning goal in the 80th minute that moved Barcelona to third place in the standings.Guiu sprinted toward the area after a pass by João Félix and found the net with a low shot that beat Bilbao goalkeeper Unai Simón for his first goal. The victory gave Barcelona 24 points after 10 matches, one point behind league leaders Real Madrid and Girona.Barcelona got the win despite playing without seve...

US ice dancers Madison Chock and Evan Bates give US another Skate America champion

US ice dancers Madison Chock and Evan Bates give US another Skate America champion Madison Chock and Evan Bates used their win at Skate America last year as a springboard to their first world championship.Perhaps their victory Sunday will be a springboard to the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics. The American ice dancers, who have yet to commit to continuing their careers all the way to the next Winter Games in Italy, proved they nevertheless remain among the best in the world. Chock and Bates scored 212.96 points at the opening event of the Grand Prix season, easily winning their fourth Skate America title at Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas.Their score was more than 10 points ahead of their total last season, and given the way scores tend to climb through the season as programs get refined, there is a good chance Chock and Bates could break their own world record at some point.“Skate America is a very special Grand Prix for us, mainly because it’s a chance to skate in front of a home audience which is very special and fun,” Chock said after the...

Deal to force multinational companies to pay a 15% minimum tax is marred by loopholes, watchdog says

Deal to force multinational companies to pay a 15% minimum tax is marred by loopholes, watchdog says WASHINGTON (AP) — An ambitious 2021 agreement by more than 140 countries and territories to weed out tax havens and force multinational corporations to pay a minimum tax has been weakened by loopholes and will raise only a fraction of the revenue that was envisioned, a tax watchdog backed by the European Union has warned. The landmark agreement, brokered by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, set a minimum global corporate tax of 15%. The idea was to stop multinational corporations, among them Apple and Nike, from using accounting and legal maneuvers to shift earnings to low- or no-tax havens. Those havens are typically places like Bermuda and the Cayman Islands where the companies actually do little or no business. The companies’ maneuvers result in lost tax revenue of $100 billion to $240 billion a year, the OECD has said.According to the report, being released Monday by the EU Tax Observatory, the agreement was expected to raise an amount equal to nearl...

(AP) — Harrison Frazar won his first PGA Tour Champions title Sunday when he birdied the 18th hole for a 3-under 69 to force a playoff with Richard Green, and then made an 8-foot birdie on the first extra hole at the Dominion Energy Charity Classic.Frazar wasn’t the only winner. Steve Stricker clinched his first Charles Schwab Cup title with two postseason events still to be played, even though he skipped the tournament.Green also closed with a 69, helped by a 10-foot par putt on the 15th and an 8-foot birdie putt on the 16th hole. But he failed to birdie the 516-yard closing hole at the Country Club of Richmond, opening the door for Frazar and Brett Quigley in the final group.Quigley birdied the 16th and 17th, and he had a 10-foot birdie putt on the final hole that he left inches short for a 71 to finish alone in third, one shot behind.Frazar didn’t make his first birdie until the 11th hole, but he hit a superb wedge from 75 yards to short range for birdie...
