Tickets available for gala honoring chef Sean Sherman’s Julia Child award Chef Sean Sherman, co-owner of Owamni and founder of North American Traditional Indigenous Food Systems (NATIFS), is curating the menu for a dinner in his honor at the Minneapolis Depot on Oct. 24.Sherman will be presented with the 2023 Julia Child Award at the gala, which is open to the public. The award is accompanied by a $50,000 grant, which will help support NATIFS and the newly opened Indigenous Food Lab in Midtown Global Market. The Indigenous Food Lab’s mission is to expand access to Indigenous food.Sherman’s gala menu ranges from scallop ceviche to cedar-braised elk, and will be prepared by his non-profit team and paired with wines from Native American vintners to celebrate the occasion.Megan O’Hara and R.T. Albany duo charged in string of car thefts ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Two Albany men were arrested following car theft investigations at the Hertz Rental Car Company at the Albany International Airport. Odiah Austin, 24, and Tyshaun Phelps, 19, each face several charges. Get the latest news, weather, sports and entertainment delivered right to your inbox! According to the Albany County Sheriff's Office, Austin and Phelps showed up at the airport in a stolen car for the purpose of stealing another car that belonged to Hertz Rental Car. On Tuesday, while sheriff's investigators were processing Austin, deputies said Phelps showed up at the police station to check on Austin. (NEWS10) -- A Saratoga Springs man was arrested Thursday following an investigation regarding home renovations. Dakota Smith, 28, is charged with third-degree grand larceny. According to the Albany County Sheriff's Office, investigators say Smith took over $39,000 from an older couple, promising to renovate their home in the town of Rensselaerville in December 2022. Deputies say during the investigation, it was learned Smith did not start any of the work that he promised, stopped communicating with the couple, and never returned the money.Deputies say Smith has a history of embezzlement around the Capital Region and faces charges in multiple jurisdictions. VSP investigating suspicious death in Rutland County Smith was arraigned at the Rensselaerville Town Court. He was released under the supervision of Albany County Probation.

Fatality shuts down SB 101 Freeway through Hollywood area A fatality involving a pedestrian on the 101 Freeway prompted officials to close the southbound lanes through the Hollywood area Friday morning.The incident was reported by Los Angeles police as a vehicle versus pedestrian around 4:45 a.m. on the 101 Freeway at Vermont, according to the California Highway Patrol. Blood and debris were found on the freeway but no further details about the fatality were provided by the CHP.All lanes were closed during the investigation causing commuters to be diverted off the freeway on North Vermont Avenue.Sky 5 was overhead showing major delays through Hollywood as of 6:30 a.m.The SigAlert was expected to continue until about 8 a.m.

Heat wave scorches Southland through Saturday You don't have to be Rob Thomas to know that it's a hot one.Southern California is experiencing an autumn heat wave that will stick around through Saturday.Temperatures are expected to peak Friday in the 80s and 90s for coastal areas and coastal plains, while they'll be between 85 and 100 in valleys and deserts, according to the National Weather Service.Contributing to the heat are Santa Ana winds that are expected to "decrease to 20-35 mph through Friday morning, then to 10-20 mph by Saturday," the NWS said.The NWS encourages the following to remain safe:Limit outdoor activities, especially during the heat of the day.Stay hydrated and avoid caffeine and alcohol.Wear lightweight, loose-fitting and light-colored clothing.Be careful with sources of flame.

Morgan Hill resident Gina Watson shot images of strange, white webby objects that fell "from my house all the way to work," she said.John E.
