Petition against skyscraper in the Sunset District draws over 2,500 signatures

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A petition opposing a proposal to develop a 600-foot tower in San Francisco's Sunset District, just blocks from Ocean Beach, has garnered over 2,500 signatures. The developer behind the proposal, CH Planning LLC, recently came forward with a fourth application for the proposed skyscraper which would be located at 2700 Sloat Blvd.According to the San Francisco City Planning Department, none of the proposals submitted by the developer so far have been in compliance with the law. City Planning Dept. Chief of Staff Dan Sider told KRON4 that the city is working with the developer to find solutions that would bring the proposal into compliance with the law. Homeless people can remain on streets, appeals court rules Mark Whitehead, 70, was last seen on Thursday at approximately 9:30 p.m. in Antioch. BEIRUT (AP) — A gunman opened fire Friday at a mosque in eastern Lebanon, killing one person and wounding several others, the Lebanese army and state news agency said. The reason behind the shooting in the eastern town of Bar Elias was not immediately clear.The Lebanese army issued a statement saying that the armed man opened fire at a group of people as they were leaving the mosque, killing one of them. It added that as troops tried to detain the gunman, he opened fire at the force whose members fired back and wounded him. The army said he was being held in a hospital. The man killed was identified as Lebanese citizen Ali Shibli, a school teacher. The wounded are also Lebanese citizens, according to local media. LAS VEGAS (AP) — No charges will be filed following a brief investigation of the altercation involving pop star Britney Spears, San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama and a member of the player’s security team, Las Vegas police said Friday.Spears said she was struck by a security guard as she tried to approach Wembanyama near a restaurant in a casino complex on Wednesday night. An Anne Arundel County, Maryland, high school teacher was charged with multiple sex crimes including second-degree rape and sexual abuse of a minor against two students.Northeast High School teacher Karl Houston Walls, 27, was also charged with four counts of fourth-degree sex offense, three counts of second-degree assault, cause to ingest bodily fluids, prevented practice, sexual solicitation of a minor and dangerous weapon with intent to injure, police said.Authorities said that in May, two students alleged that Walls sent sexually explicit text messages along with photos and videos. Two-time Olympic gold-medalist and former ABL MVP Nikki McCray-Penson has died. She was 51.McCray-Penson was an assistant women’s basketball coach at Rutgers last season and the school on Friday confirmed her death. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013. She joined Dawn Staley as an assistant coach at South Carolina from 2008-17. She was part of the Gamecocks’ first national championship in 2017.McCray-Penson won gold medals with the U.S. women’s basketball team at the 1996 and 2000 Olympics. The 1996 team sparked the formation of the WNBA and ABL. She played in the ABL and won MVP honors in 1997 before heading over to the WNBA. McCray-Penson was a three-time All-Star in that league while playing for the Washington Mystics. She played eight seasons in the WNBA before retiring in 2006.
