Diamondbacks are big winners these days, but first, they had to learn how to lose PHOENIX (AP) — To learn how to win on a consistent basis, the Arizona Diamondbacks had to figure out how to lose.A terrible six weeks back in the middle of the summer threatened to derail their season, but the D-backs persevered and came out stronger. Now they’re on their way to an NL Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers after finishing a two-game sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers in the wild-card round on Wednesday.Game 1 is Saturday in Los Angeles.“I think the guys that we have are built for the moment,” Arizona center fielder Alek Thomas said.It hasn’t always been this way for the D-backs, who are back in the playoffs for the first time since 2017. They’re just two years removed from losing 110 games in a dismal 2021 campaign that tested everyone’s patience. Those days seemed long gone by midway through the current season. Colts defense still searching for a way to slow down Derrick Henry with Titans coming to town INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — When the Indianapolis Colts watch video of prior matchups against Derrick Henry, they see a whole lot of failure. They’ve spent seven years trying to slow down the powerful 6-foot-3, 247-pound, two-time NFL rushing champ, and nothing seems to work. The Tennessee star has run through them, around them, even stiff-armed them for seven 100-yard outings in 14 career games against Indy. And if the Colts want to snap their five-game losing streak to the Titans, the defensive game plan is no secret.“With Tennessee, you know (coach Mike) Vrabel is going to have them ready to play, that they’re going to rally behind No. 22,” Colts linebacker Zaire Franklin said, referring to Henry’s jersey number.Henry had 1,287 yards against Indy (2-2) — although the Titans’ AFC South rivals Houston and Jacksonville have allowed even more yards to the 2015 Heisman Trophy winner. In his last seven games against the Colts, Henry has topped 100 yards six times. Chargers using the bye week to look forward to what lies ahead the rest of the season Teams usually go into the bye week looking back at their accomplishments. Brandon Staley, though, is trying to look ahead. After four games, Staley’s Los Angeles Chargers squad is on its earliest in-season break since 2009. Instead of the usual intensive self-scouting done during bye weeks, Staley said his staff will focus on the remaining three-quarters of the season.“Maybe a little bit more think-tank of what we want our team to look like here in the weeks after the bye, and then projecting to the end of the season, instead of saying, ‘Hey, I have all of this assessment for like half the season, where I have eight or nine games of inventory to look at,'” Staley said. “We have a much shorter inventory to go by.”The Chargers continued to be plagued by some of the same issues exhibited throughout Staley’s first two seasons. They have held double-digit leads in three games, only to see them go down to the final minute. After losing in overtime at Tennessee in Week 2, Los An...
