A rare blue supermoon could raise tides above normal just as Hurricane Idalia lashes Florida’s west coast, exacerbating flooding from the storm.The moon was closest to the Earth on Wednesday, the same day Idalia made landfall as a high-end Category 3 hurricane near Keaton Beach in Florida's sparsely populated Big Bend region with maximum sustained winds near 125 mph.While a supermoon can make for a spectacular backdrop in photos of landmarks around the world, its intensified gravitational pull also makes tides higher.“I would say the timing is pretty bad for this one,” said Brian Haines, the meteorologist in charge at the National Weather Service office in Charleston, South Carolina. DENVER (KDVR) — Have you ever seen a fish receive medical care? Check this one off the list of strange things. A fish at the Denver Zoo received a CT scan when staff noticed a change in its behavior. You’ve been warned: Don’t drive over solid white lines After animal care specialists in the zoo's Tropical Discovery habitat noticed the French angelfish had trouble swimming and floating, it was taken to the Helen and Arthur E. AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas' main electrical grid operator asked Texans to conserve electricity use. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT)'s request for conservation is from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday.ERCOT said it avoided emergency operations Tuesday due to conservation efforts by Texas residents and businesses, combined with wind improvements and additional grid reliability tools.“Current forecasts are showing a potential to enter emergency operations this evening because of a high level of unexpected thermal generation outages and forecasted low wind generation. AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Travis County reported its first Xylazine-related overdose deaths, leaders announced Wednesday. It was not the only potentially fatal drug in their systems at their time of death, according to county staff.The announcement comes after the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) warned of a "widespread" threat of fentanyl mixed with Xylazine nationwide.The Travis County medical examiner said during a conference Wednesday since the beginning of August, the county has found at least five cases in which Xylazine was detected, four of those cases finalized. All of those people also had fentanyl and several other drugs in their system at the time of death as well. A new Boston University CTE Center brain bank study has found that more than 40% of contact and collision sport athletes who died young had CTE.The BU Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) Center study released on Monday details more than 60 cases of CTE diagnosed in athletes under age 30, including the first American woman athlete diagnosed with CTE.Among a brain bank sample of 152 young athletes exposed to repetitive head impacts (RHI) who died when they were under 30 years old, 41.4% (63 athletes) had neuropathological evidence of CTE — a degenerative brain disease caused by RHI.“This study clearly shows that the pathology of CTE starts early,” said corresponding author Ann McKee, chief of neuropathology at VA Boston Healthcare System and director of the BU CTE Center.“The fact that over 40% of young contact and collision sport athletes in the UNITE brain bank have CTE is remarkable — considering that studies of community brain banks show that fewer than 1% of the general popula...Police seek owner of neglected dog found in Prospect Park

Police say the dog showed visible signs of neglect, including malnourishment. The dog was also reportedly covered in feces and urine.
