The 2023 NFL season began on Thursday with the Detroit Lions pulling off a surprise victory against the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, and the action has rolled into Los Angeles for Sunday afternoon’s matchup between the Chargers and the Miami Dolphins. Fans of both teams were out as early as 9:15 a.m. setting up tailgate parties in the stadium parking lot before the game’s 1:25 p.m. kickoff, and the crowds only continued to grow as the morning progressed. Confident Chargers fans told KTLA 5’s Omar Lewis that the team’s new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, a former quarterback for the Detroit Lions and the Dallas Cowboys, will help superstar QB Justin Herbert to his best season yet. “Herbert’s going to ball this year,” one Chargers fan said. “[He’s going to be the] MVP, I’m calling it right now.” Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert throws during the second half of an NFL football game against the Kansas City Chiefs Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022, in K...Nearly 60% of California voters oppose reparation payments for Black residents

Over the last few years, the idea of reparations — which would compensate the descendants of American slaves — has surfaced across the country. Though a state task force recently recommended making cash reparations a reality in California, voters in the Golden State oppose doing so by a roughly two-to-one margin, according to a new poll from the Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies.“The findings reveal the racial and political contradictions of California voters,” Cristina Mora, co-director of the institute, said in a statement. “While many can empathize with the plight of Black Americans, not all of these feelings will translate into support for policies that address longstanding racial harms. And though this might be an information issue for some groups, the fact that even liberals are divided indicates that campaigns for racial redress will face a steep uphill climb.”The poll found that 43% of Democrats favor the idea, while 42% oppose cash reparatio...The 2023 Ford Maverick Lariat Compact Pickup Truck

NEW YORK (AP) — Now that Coco Gauff is a Grand Slam champion, she’s ready for stardom.“100%,” she said, without a hint of hesitation. “That was the dream since I started this sport.”She’s also eager.“I know that this feeling is incredible and I want to experience it again,” the 19-year-old from Florida said in an interview with The Associated Press at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Saturday night, a few hours after she defeated Aryna Sabalenka 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the U.S. Open final. “So I guess what’s next is trying to keep going even further.”And what, in her mind, would that entail?“To keep winning more of these,” she said with a laugh. “That would be the biggest goal. I’m not going to put a number (on) how many I want to win. But as many as I can.”Anyone who would doubt Gauff clearly has not been paying attention. To the way she plays, to the way she can think her way through a match, to the way she handles herself the rest of the time. It’s not easy to be in the spotlight from 15, her age ...Norrman captures Irish Open to follow Aberg as Swedish winner on European tour. STRAFFAN, Ireland (AP) — Vincent Norrman gave Sweden a second straight winner on the European tour when he shot 7-under 65 to capture the Irish Open title on Sunday as Rory McIlroy faltered in the final round by hitting into the water on three different holes.A week after 23-year-old Ludvig Aberg produced a stunning finish to win the European Masters in Switzerland and help secure a spot on Europe’s Ryder Cup team, the 25-year-old Norrman did the same at The K Club to earn his second victory in two months — after the Barbasol Championship in mid-July — and underscore the talent emerging from Sweden.Play was delayed for about 90 minutes because of bad weather soon after the leading groups teed off, with McIlroy at that stage in a four-way share of the lead on 12-under par.His bid for a second title at his home event, after 2016, tottered when he found water off wedge shots from the middle of the fairway at Nos. 7 and 11. MARSEILLE, France (AP) — South Africa put the squeeze on a brave Scotland, scoring two tries early in the second half to break open a close game and win 18-3 to start its Rugby World Cup title defense on Sunday. The Springboks showed both sides of their game at Stade Velodrome where flanker Pieter-Steph du Toit bashed his way over in the 46th minute and winger Kurt-Lee Arendse flew onto a perfect cross-kick from flyhalf Manie Libbok three minutes later to make a narrow 6-3 lead at halftime suddenly comfortable. There were no more points as South Africa closed it down in the last half-hour, using a set-piece dominance it ultimately gained and physical, rushing defense to keep the game Scots at bay. That forward dominance for the world champion wasn’t guaranteed, though, especially after Scotland held its own early in the scrum battle and even shunted the daunted Boks pack back on their own put-in to set up Finn Russell’s long-range penalty and Scotland’s only points on...Latest news
