But, he added: “It is both a huge crisis for us to face and somewhat remarkable in that of the (more than) 30,000 that have come through, we’re down to maybe 300-400 that have ended up without a place to stay.”One year ago then-Mayor Michael Hancock declared a state of emergency, calling on local, state and especially federal partners to provide resources. As the Broncos defense over the past eight games has transformed into one of the NFL’s best, its faced all types of offenses. The rugged, run-heavy Cleveland Browns. The magic of Patrick Mahomes, even this frustrated-by-poor-receivers version. The barely-bother-to-run Los Angeles Chargers.Next up is perhaps the most difficult challenge since Denver gave up 70 points at Miami, a performance so terrible and so different from this group’s recent run that it feels more like three years ago rather than just less than three months ago. At the least, it’s a task on par with playing at Buffalo a month ago.The Lions, powered by quarterback Jared Goff, a fleet of young, talented skill players and a big, physical offensive line and orchestrated by coordinator Ben Johnson, has a calling card: balance.“These guys obviously run the ball well, and have the ability to then go off play-action or drop back,” Denver coach Sean Payton said Thursday. “It’s not just one thing.”No indeed. California homeowners know that climate change is very real -- real enough that major insurers are exiting the state because of the growing risk of wildfires."For many Californians, this is an insurance emergency," state Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara told legislators this week.He should know. When he campaigned for the commissioner gig, Lara was vocal about the risk of climate change.Insurers got the message. Allstate, Star Farm and Farmers Insurance promptly tried to raise rates and cut back on coverage. When Lara put the kibosh on rate hikes, the three big insurers either stopped or limited their coverage of California homes. Now the insurance commissioner is facing the unenviable task of trying to lure insurers back.As the Wall Street Journal tells it, Lara's plan "would require insurers to write a number of policies in 'distressed' fire-prone areas. In return, insurers would get much of their wish list, including a promise of faster decisions on rate requests."It's a tough c...Select LAX terminals accepting California mobile IDs
