EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Giants running back Saquon Barkley was limited in practice for the second straight day and his status for Monday night’s game against the Seattle Seahawks remains uncertain because of a sprained right ankle.New York (1-2) practiced indoors on Friday because of heavy rain in the area.Barkley, who sustained a high ankle sprain in Week 2 against Arizona and sat out against San Francisco last week, did some straight-ahead running and jumped over thin rectangular pads in the portion of the workout open to the media. The No. 2 overall draft pick in 2018 did not speak to reporters for the second straight day.Coach Brian Daboll had said that Barkley’s workout on Thursday would give him an idea how much progress Barkley had made.“He did good,” Daboll said before Friday’s workout. “He’ll be out there again today. We’ll see where he’s at.”A player who seemingly did not make progress was left tackle Andrew Thomas, who has missed the last two games ...Backers of North Dakota congressional age limits sue over out-of-state petitioner ban

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Supporters of a proposed ballot measure for congressional age limits in North Dakota are suing to be able to use out-of-state petition circulators to gather signatures. The initiative’s push comes amid age-related concerns for federal officeholders. U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California died Thursday at age 90 after facing health issues in recent months. Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, 81, froze twice in front of reporters last summer. Joe Biden, who is the oldest U.S. president ever, is seeking reelection at age 80.A political scientist says the measure could be an effort to create a test case for the U.S. Supreme Court to see if the court would be willing to allow states to set congressional age limits on an individual basis.“I assume that’s their goal,” said Mark Jendrysik, professor of political science at the University of North Dakota.Jared Hendrix, who is leading the effort, said “the people deserve better,” citing a recent instance ...Browns’ No. 1 defense faces toughest test of early season in Ravens’ dual-threat QB Lamar Jackson

The Orioles have conquered the American League East, but now face a conflict with a Billy Joel and Stevie Nicks concert scheduled at the Ravens’ nearby stadium on the same day they begin the American League Division Series.Major League Baseball has four division series games scheduled to start on Oct. 7. The concert is scheduled for that night at 7 p.m.The Orioles’ and Ravens’ stadiums sit on an 85-acre tract with shared, state-owned parking lots between them. It’s not workable to hold simultaneous events. A ballgame and concert would need to be scheduled hours apart, and even that could pose traffic or logistical problems.Major League Baseball, which is aware of the potential conflict, says the baseball game cannot be pushed to the next day — Oct. 8 — when the Ravens will be in Pittsburgh playing the Steelers.By clinching the American League East — and having the AL’s best record — the Orioles gained home-field advantag...‘Varsity Blues’ college admission scandal redux: John Wilson gets only probation following successful appeal

John Wilson, a businessman and the only Massachusetts resident charged in the sweeping “Varsity Blues” college admissions federal fraud case, had his prison sentence yanked and replaced by a year of probation after he was sentenced on a single tax-related charge.“After almost five years of being falsely accused and then wrongly convicted, my family and I are relieved to see our nightmare end. I have spent years defending my innocence and the reputations of my children. Today, it’s clear to all that I was telling the truth, I did not violate any laws or school policies,” Wilson, of Lynnfield, said in a statement shared Friday with media outlets.“While I may have been the one on trial, my children were the true victims of this prosecutorial overreach. Contrary to the false narrative put forward by prosecutors and repeated in the media, my children were extraordinary students and athletes who worked hard for everything they earned,” he added.Wilson in February of last year ...Battenfeld: Lame-duck councilors look for revenge against mayor and Mass and Cass plan

There’s nothing more perilous in politics than defeated lame-duck elected officials with nothing to lose – and that’s what Boston Mayor Michelle Wu is facing right now.Two Boston city councilors bounced by voters in the preliminary election – and one who is about to leave on his own – are selfishly trying to torpedo Wu’s plan to clean up Mass and Cass.Scandal-scarred Councilor Ricardo Arroyo, who Wu snubbed during the election, seems especially bent on getting revenge on the mayor who endorsed his opponent in the preliminary.Defeated Councilor Kendra Lara, who lost her job because of slamming her car into a house while driving an unregistered vehicle without a license, is also opposing Wu’s Mass and Cass ordinance, calling it a “drastic” solution. It’s not drastic. No one will be thrown onto the street. People at Mass and Cass would be offered shelter and transportation as well as a place to store their belongings before their camps would be removed. And it’s not really new because t...Latest news
