New book commemorates former Montreal neighbourhood bulldozed for Expo 67 MONTREAL — There is almost nothing to suggest that the mix of parking lots and industrial lands near Montreal’s Victoria Bridge was once a vibrant residential neighbourhood. But before it was demolished in 1964 to make way for a sports venue for the Expo 67 world fair, children played on the stoops of Victorian row houses in a small collection of streets called Goose Village, where successive waves of immigrants worked, lived and raised families. Now, the story of the neighbourhood and its people is being revived in a new book by Concordia University associate photography professor Marisa Portolese. Published in English and French, “Goose Village” uses archival photos, interviews with former residents and modern portraits to chronicle the day-to-day life of the working-class neighbourhood in the city’s southwest before its 350 buildings were demolished in what politicians of the time portrayed as urban renewal. Portolese describes Goose Village as a small nei...

Vikings rookie quarterback Jaren Hall leaves first start with concussion The worst part is Jaren Hall was kind of cooking. After struggling to find a rhythm on his first drive, the rookie quarterback had the Vikings in position to score a touchdown on his second drive. He completed a quick pass to tight end Johnny Mundt for 18 yards, then a deep pass to running back Alexander Mattison for 47 yards. That put the Vikings in the low red zone where Hall tried to scramble for a touchdown. He got hit hard near the goal line, slammed the back of his head into the turf, and had to be helped off the field. After briefly getting checked out in the medical tent, Hall was quickly ruled out with a concussion. He finished the game 5 for 6 passing for 78 yards to go along with 11 yards rushing. In place of Hall, the Vikings turned to Josh Dobbs, the journey quarterback they acquired at the trade deadline this past week.Related ArticlesMinnesota Vikings | Vikings left tackle Christian Darrisaw ruled out for game against Falcons Minnesota Vikings | ...
