Los Angeles among the least neighborly cities in the U.S., survey shows Residents of metropolitan Los Angeles and California’s Inland Empire don’t get high marks when it comes to neighborly love.A new study from AmeriCorps and the U.S. Census Bureau titled "Volunteering and Civic Life in America" shows metro L.A. and the Riverside area have some of the lowest rates of volunteerism among the nation's largest cities.The data was gathered from September 2020-21 and ranked 12 metro areas based on formal volunteering, like belonging to an organization, and “informal helping,” defined as exchanging favors with a neighbor.Riverside ranked dead last in formal volunteering with just 9% of those surveyed saying they belong to an organization that helps others. LAPD identifies, arrests man accused of vandalizing Islamic Center in Los Angeles Police have arrested a suspect who allegedly used a permanent marker to vandalize an Islamic Center in Koreatown with hateful comments over the weekend.The incident occurred around 12:40 a.m. Sunday at the Islamic Center of Southern California, located at 434 S. Vermont Ave., according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Woman’s body found at Berkeley Marina BERKELEY — An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death of a woman whose body was found Monday evening in the water at the Berkeley Marina, authorities said.The woman’s name has not yet been released.She was found about 7 p.m. Monday after a caller to police reported a body floating against the rocks in the water near the former HS Lordships Restaurant on Seawall Drive.Firefighters retrieved the body from the water and began life-saving measures. But the woman was pronounced dead there, authorities said.Authorities have not said if there was any trauma to the body or how long they believe the woman had been in the water.  The Alameda County Coroner’s Office will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.The death is being investigated by Berkeley police.Anyone with information may call police at 510-981-5741 or 510-981-5900.
