Denver Public Schools declared Friday a “mental health day” and canceled all classes districtwide in the wake of the shooting of two administrators at East High School.Superintendent Alex Marrero announced the move in an email to the DPS school leaders, writing, “No student or employee should have to carry the fear of potential violence when they walk into our buildings each day.”“To allow us all to take a moment to pause and process the challenging events this year, including the data breach, tomorrow, March 24, is a non-student contact mental health day for all students and DPS employees,” Marrero wrote.The district’s Board of Education also canceled its regular Thursday board meeting, replacing it with a special meeting to discuss security arrangements after the shooting. The Denver father of a 12-year-old boy who was killed when a man tracked down his stolen car and shot the boy inside the vehicle called for a new state law Thursday that would prohibit drivers from confronting car thieves without police involvement.“It’s the police’s job, let the police do it,” said Thomas Armstrong, father to slain 12-year-old Elias Armstrong. “No civilian should be able to track down their car and be able to approach the vehicle. I want it called Elias’ Law.”Elias Armstrong was fatally shot on Feb. 5 by a man who used a phone app to track his stolen Audi. The vehicle was stolen from northeast Denver, and the man, who has not been publicly identified, followed it to the Sun Valley neighborhood, where he pulled up to the vehicle and sprinted at it.An exchange of gunfire followed, police said, and Elias Armstrong, who was in the stolen car, was fatally wounded. A man who had allegedly robbed a bank in Loma Linda was apprehended while running away Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.The incident occurred around 3:50 p.m. at a Citi Bank located at 25487 Barton Rd., according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.The man, later identified as Scott Malosh, entered the bank, claimed to have a gun and demanded money from employees.He ran from the location with money stolen from the bank, officials said.Deputies arrived on the scene and were able to apprehend Malosh as he ran.Malosh, who was described as being homeless, was booked on suspicion of robbery and remains in custody on $60,000 bail, officials said.Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run on Aldama Street [Los Angeles, CA]

Mellencamp Brings Golden Age to Life in Hollywood: Going to a rock & roll concert at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood was a new one on us. The venue is normally associated with theatrical performances — musicals, plays and comedy. As it happens, it was the perfect room to watch this latest John Mellencamp show.The theme appeared to be the Golden Age of moviemaking in Hollywood (appropriately enough), and how that relates to telling the stories of outsiders (of which he considers himself one). The stage was dressed like a movie set, with statues of (we think) Marlon Brando and other assorted stars of that era dotted around. 94-Year-Old Female Passenger Dies in Two-Car AccidentTUCSON, AZ (March 23, 2023) – Sunday night Mary Nunez-Ramirez died after being involved in a two-vehicle accident.The incident happened on March 3rd, at about 6:45 p.m., near the intersection of North Grande Avenue and West St. Mary’s Road.According to reports, a blue 2007 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling eastbound on St. Mary’s Road when it attempted to make a turn on North Grande Avenue. There, the Chevrolet collided with a black 2013 Hyundai Sonata traveling westbound on St. Mary’s Road.Emergency crews arrived at the site of the collision shortly after.
