CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — The Vatican had shared with police findings of an internal investigation of a former Australian bishop over child sex abuse allegations and the church would fully cooperate with criminal investigators, a cleric said on Friday. The Catholic Church announced the handover of its investigation report into former Bishop Christopher Saunders three days after the Western Australia Police Force publicly revealed it had requested a copy.“The church will continue to offer full transparency and cooperation with W.A. Police,” Bishop Michael Morrissey, who replaced Saunders in the Broome Diocese in 2021, said in a statement.“The church encourages anyone who has experienced abuse, or suspects abuse within the community, to come forward and report it to police,” Morrissey added.Saunders, now 73, denied any wrongdoing and refused to participate in the Vatican investigation, which began last year, the church said.He resigned in 2021 as bishop of Broome, an Outback diocese o...Daily horoscope for September 22, 2023

Greenhouse gas emissions from meat production are a disaster for climate change, but plant-based meat substitutes like soy are sometimes even worse for the environment. To protect both the planet and consumer choice, look to innovation in lab-grown meat technology. Meat is killing the planet. Even enthusiastic meat-eaters (myself included) cannot escape the substantial greenhouse gas emissions involved in getting steaks onto our plates. A University of Illinois paper, published in Nature Food in 2021, found that meat production is responsible for more than a third of all global emissions, meaning the meat industry pollutes more than double the entire US economy, writes Jason Reed. There are two different ways we could deal with this situation. The first, promoted by most of the environmentalist movement, is to go vegan. By abstaining from animal products and adopting a plant-based diet, they claim, we can eliminate the demand for animal farming and therefore drastically reduce that i...Goethe-Institut Brussels events

Ukraine’s National Commission for State Language Standards has ruled that writing words such as “Russia” and “Moscow” in lowercase letters in unofficial documents will no longer be considered an error. The commission said it made the decision after considering appeals from Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk and official letters from the Institute of Ukrainian Language and the O. O. Potebnia Institute of Linguistics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. From now on, spelling words such as “Russian Federation,” “Russia,” “Moscow,” “Moscow Kingdom,” “Russian Empire” and “State Duma of the Russian Federation,” in lowercase will not be a “deviation from the norms of the Ukrainian language in texts of an unofficial nature,” the commission said. Many Ukrainians, on social media in particular, had already been using lowercase letters when referring to Russia, ever since the Kremlin’s full-scale...Latest news
