ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Blues wrapped up their 2022-23 season with a shutout road loss Thursday, paving the way for their worst full-season finish in 15 years. The Blues ended their season with a 37-38-7 record for 81 points, missing the playoffs for just the second time in 12 years. It's the team's worst 82-game finish since the 2007-08 campaign, which led to a 33-36-13 record and 79. One day following the season finale, the Blues announced they are parting ways with assistant coaches Craig McTavish and Mike Van Ryn. Assistant coach Steve Ott and goalies coach David Alexander will return next season. The Blues dropped 28 points in the regular-season standings from last year, which resulted in 107 points and a second-round playoff battle. St. Louis finished the season with the NHL's 10th worst record, slightly improving their lottery odds for the upcoming draft. Opinion: Why people are fleeing blue cities for red states

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 10:36:30 GMT

There are a lot of us in the Northeastern media who properly spend a lot of time slamming the Republican Party for what a mess it has become. I have only one question: If we’re right, why are so many people leaving blue states so they can live in red ones?Between 2010 and 2020, the fastest-growing states were mostly red — places such as Texas, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and South Carolina. During the pandemic that trend accelerated, and once again, most of the big population-gaining states are governed by Republicans. If you go back further, you see decade after decade of migration toward the more conservative South. Brookings Institution demographer William Frey has noted that in 1920, the Northeast and the Midwest accounted for 60% of America’s population. A century later, the Sun Belt accounts for 62% of the nation’s population. These days, we are mostly a Sun Belt nation. Why are these red states growing so rapidly? The short answer is that they are more pro-business. In a ...

Oscar and Emmy-nominated filmmaker-author Frederick Marx Seeks to Reimagine Funeral Rites With New Film It’s Your Wonderful Life

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 10:36:30 GMT

Across all cultures worldwide, funerals are an outpouring of emotion and tributes to the deceased. Family and friends often give touching eulogies, illustrating how the departed made a huge impact on their lives and how much they meant to them. These are also accompanied by often lavish rituals, which embody the family’s and community’s grief over the loss of a loved one.Multi-award nominated film producer, director, and author Frederick Marx says that, while funerals do serve a legitimate purpose in society, it could be of greater benefit if the community would also come together and honor a person while they were still alive. He proposes the holding of life-honoring ceremonies, where people close to someone who is terminally ill or of old age gather with them and speak about how they touched their lives and provide an opportunity to say goodbye.“This ceremony turns a funeral on its head. We shouldn’t wait to gather until after someone dies to speak wonderful thin...
