Following a historic start, the slumping Rays are suddenly playing catch-up in the AL East ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The slumping Tampa Bay Rays believe in themselves.Baseball’s best team for much of this season has seen a historic start give way to a July swoon that’s loosened its hold on the top record in the American League. The surging Baltimore Orioles won three of four between the division rivals over the weekend, taking over first place in the AL East and dropping the reeling Rays, who opened the year with 13 consecutive victories, two games off the pace.Tampa Bay entered July with a season-high 6½-game division lead but has stumbled to an AL-worst 4-14 record this month while sputtering offensively and weathering injuries that are testing the depth of their starting pitching. The Rays haven’t compiled one of the best marks in the majors over the last decade without being resourceful and resilient, though, which is one reason manager Kevin Cash is confident his team will rebound and finish strong as it aims for a fifth straight playoff appearance.“We’re just a very...

2023 is set to be the deadliest year on water DENVER (KDVR) -- It’s turning out to be one of the deadliest years in water fatalities, and the season isn’t even close to being over. As of Monday, there are 24 estimated water-related deaths with three people still missing, according to Bridget O’Rourke, a statewide public information officer.  ‘Way more than deaths than we’d like:’ River safety in focus as high water levels continue The water-related deaths are on par with last year when 42 people died over the entire year. What’s concerning is the rise in river-related deaths.  For the entire year of 2022, there were 17 river deaths. Through June, there were already at least 14 river-related deaths, and it’s only halfway through the summer season. The increase in water-related deaths has to do with the snow run-off which is higher than usual. The increased volume of run-offs leads to more rapids. Higher water levels mean the water flows faster than normal and has a quicker, more dangerous underpull, ac...

Biden administration officials have grown increasingly concerned in recent months about Abbott’s measures, which have disrupted US Border Patrol operations in the region and put migrants at risk. A Homeland Security official told CNN last week that Abbott’s moves are “making our job harder” while disturbing images of migrants with injuries and troubling reports of Texas troops pushing migrants back to Mexico ha...
