BERLIN (AP) — Germany’s last major department store chain aims to close two-fifths of its branches, months after it filed for insolvency protection for the second time in less than three years, the company’s employee council said Monday. The long-troubled Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof plans to shut 52 of its current 129 stores, the council said. It added that the move would cost more than 5,000 jobs, German news agency dpa reported. The company, which resulted from the merger a few years ago of rivals Karstadt and Kaufhof, sought protection from creditors in late October, citing a steep rise in energy prices and weak consumer spending. It had already shut around 40 stores and cut some 4,000 jobs after seeking protection during the first lockdown of the coronavirus pandemic in April 2020, and reportedly was granted 680 million euros ($724 million) in state aid. (The Hill) -- An attorney representing former President Donald Trump in the Manhattan prosecutors’ hush money probe, which could soon culminate in criminal charges, described the case as “outrageous” on Monday.During an appearance on ABC’s “Good Morning America” with anchor George Stephanopoulos, attorney Joe Tacopina said an October 2016 hush payment at the center of the case that a Trump aide made to adult film star Stormy Daniels, who alleges she had an affair with Trump, was not “directly related” to Trump’s presidential campaign. Trump denies the affair. The hush money has reemerged as the primary focus of the probe being run by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D), who has empaneled a grand jury to hear evidence and could soon seek an indictment against the former president. Connecting the payment to a campaign finance violation could become the crux of the case.“I expect justice to prevail, and if that's the case, George, there shouldn't be an indictment,” Tacopina said...Man killed daughter's suspected stalker with moose antler, sheriff says

Limestone pieces engraved with the Twins’ new logos sat wrapped in plastic on palates in the bowels of Target Field last week. Many of the freshly printed graphics that still needed to be applied around the park sit in an upstairs suite. Clubhouse carpeting bearing the old logo still needs to be replaced, as do many logos on aisle seats throughout the ballpark.“Next week, it’ll be a dusty mess down here,” vice president of ballpark operations Dave Horsman said last week, gesturing to Twins-branded flooring inside the park that would soon be replaced as part of a two-week process. While Twins players are busy preparing for the season down in Florida, a project to transform the ballpark to reflect the Twins’ new logo and branding has reached its final month.
